The Fall of Lord Drayson

By: Rachael Anderson / Narrated By: Helen Taylor
Length: 8 hrs and 16 mins
So delightful that I’m oh so ready for the next in the series
I really, really liked The Fall of Lord Drayson! It has good characters, a fun plot, and really grand narration, so what’s not to love? Especially for me: Y’all know I’m totally into getting my romance ya-yas out as much as I can.
Lucy Beresford ALWAYS tells the truth, she being a vicar’s daughter and all. ALWAYS, except for oooone tiiiiiny time where she tells a whopper. She tells the new earl of Drayson, Colin Cavendish, that he’s actually a servant, a man of All Work (this after he suffers an accident and loses his memory). Ya see, he’s very much a jerk, and he simply peeved her one time too many. He doesn’t accept this without question, so this isn’t a story that comes off as toooo unlikely, but the deeper Lucy and her maid, Georgina, get into the fib, the more fraught things become. If the earl, now the servant “Collins”, ever gets his memory back, he’ll likely be so furious that he immediately throws them out of their home (as he was planning on doing in two months time).
Things twist and turn, and Collins tries desperately to remember who he is, even as he does many an onerous chore. He gets his hands dirty, working like crazy. But as Lucy works alongside him, he finds he doesn’t mind the endless toil so much—he rather likes her. Which makes Lucy feel guiltier and guiltier as time goes on.
Will Collins find much to admire in Lucy? Will it be enough to mitigate some of the horrific rage he’s going to feel when his memory comes back? Will Lucy’s conscience finally make her tell the truth, no matter what the consequences? Listen and find out.
And listen to Helen Taylor’s almost perfect narration. Her voice is pretty low to begin with, so handling the earl is no problem at all. And it’s not so low as to make Lucy’s voice odd. Other than lengthy pauses between chapters, pauses so long that I believed my Audible app had crashed on me (as it is apt to do, no matter HOW MANY updates they send out), I had so much fun listening to this sweet charmer of an audiobook. Especially as when it seems that all is well and good and done, things twist again so that much is sent up into the air again.
Seriously! Gonna finish a few reviews, finish a few more already started audiobooks and then I’m REALLY going to go to the next in the series. Can’t wait!
